First visit to a therapist? You know what to expect – a conversation, questions, a little stress. But in the case of TSR (Solution Focused Therapy), many people come out of the session surprised. Positive. Why? Because this therapy is a bit of a different story.
No digging in the past
Imagine you are sitting on the couch. You are prepared for the typical: "How did you feel as a child?" or “Tell me about your relationship with your mother.” And here... a surprise.
Instead you hear the question:
“What do you want to do differently in your life?”
It's not about ignoring your story. But the TSR therapist immediately directs your attention towards the future. It focuses on what you want to achieve. What you want your life to look like po zmianie. Because you don't come to the therapist just to tell a story – you come to move forward.
What can you expect?
The first session at TSR is primarily a conversation about your goal. You don't have to know the answer right away. Sometimes it's "I want to worry less," "I want to get along better with my partner," or simply "I want to feel like myself again." And that's OK.
Your therapist will help you name it. He will ask questions, but not to analyze you as if under a microscope. Rather, just to build with you a picture of where you are going.
There will be a question like:
“If, by some miracle, everything worked out tomorrow… how would you know if something had changed?”
Takie pytanie to klasyka TSR – tzw. pytanie cud. Helps you imagine the change. And then, step by step, make it a reality.
What does the therapist do? He listens. But really.
At TSR, you don't have to wait months to feel like something is moving. Even one session can bring relief because the therapist treats you as an expert in your life. His role is more accompaniment, a nie diagnozowanie.
He is not looking for problems. He is looking for exceptions – moments when, despite difficulties, something worked. Because it is on these exceptions that change is built.
What if you don't know what you want?
It's nothing. TSR is ready for this. You can come and say: "I don't know, I just know that I don't want to do this anymore." And that's enough. The rest will fall into place - step by step, with questions that inspire hope, not fear.
Remember this
The first session at TSR can be... pleasant. No judgment. No need to scratch wounds. But with a specific vision to strive for.
And most importantly – with the feeling that you are heard and taken seriously, even if you don't know yet how to describe what hurts you.
TSR doesn't work magic. But it can work wonders. Especially when you start to believe that change is really possible.
