Problem-focused approach, also known as the medical model, is based on the assumption that understanding the pattern causing a problem in a client's life is key to solving it. Therapists who work in this model focus on extracting detailed descriptions of the client's problems and unwanted past. This makes it possible to categorize patients based on problems and previous diagnoses.
Focus on solutions
Solution Focused Approach (TSR), as opposed to the medical model, emphasizes identifying what works, what is good, and what are the strengths of an individual, family, or community. TSR does not ignore customer issues, but instead of focusing on the negative aspects, it focuses on understanding how change occurs in the client's life and what positive opportunities are available to him.
In TSR, a key role is played by building a vision of the preferred future with the client, which takes into account not only the problems, but also the unique talents and strengths of the individual. Therapy in this model does not have to be long-term – can be a short but effective intervention, which introduces decisive changes in the client's life. The therapist in TSR is not an expert in the traditional sense - the therapist's role is to support the client in using his or her own resources and knowledge to solve the problem.
Application of TSR
TSR znalaPLNo szerokie zastosowanie w wielu obszarach ochrony zdrowia psychicznego.
The differences between a problem-focused approach and a solution-focused approach are significant and may affect the effectiveness of therapy depending on the specificity of the client's problem. While the medical model focuses on diagnosis and understanding the problem, TSR focuses on identifying the client's strengths and resources, which can speed up the therapeutic process and make it more constructive and positive. Choosing the right approach depends on the individual needs and situation of the customer, and the therapist's experience in both methods may prove crucial to achieving therapeutic success.
